The founding chapter

The group we wished existed. Ours to build.

DogShit Investing is currently one private group: a handful of people who genuinely want to think alongside one another every month.

You start it You choose the eight One case from every member One shared record
01 / WHO YOU INVITE

A chapter is only as good as who is around the table.

As the founder, you are the filter. The point is not to fill every seat. It is to choose a small group you genuinely want to think with, and to take responsibility for the table that choice creates.

01 / CURATE

Choose the table deliberately

The invitations are not an administrative step. They are the first act of building the chapter, and they shape what belonging there will feel like.

02 / SELECT

Be selective on purpose

A small chapter leaves room for real connection. Invite people you would want beside you month after month, not people who merely make the numbers work.

03 / PROTECT

Protect what you are starting

Being welcoming does not mean inviting everyone. Be willing to leave out people who will not do the work, because every place affects the chapter around it.

02 / THE MONTH

The rhythm you would run.

A dependable monthly pattern gives the chapter continuity without making every gathering feel the same.

Each month, everyone brings a case. The chapter examines them and picks one, every member backs the selection with the small stake, and the shared record carries the thinking into the next month.

The full monthly mechanics live on the How It Works page.

The core obligation The meeting is the commitment. Prepare. Show up. Take part.

03 / MEMBERSHIP

A chapter only works when people can count on one another.

The expectations are clear because every absent contribution changes the room. Small stakes keep the financial commitment proportionate. Participation keeps the chapter real.

01

Protect the monthly date

Attendance is the central obligation. A chapter depends on members being present often enough to know and challenge one another.

02

Do the preparation

Members arrive with researched thinking, not just a hot tip or an opinion improvised at the table.

03

Make the small purchase

Each member independently acts on the monthly stake of 20 in the chapter's local currency. The boundary is deliberately small, and members record purchased, not purchased, or unable to access afterward.

04

Leave room to be wrong

Challenge the idea without diminishing the person. Better judgment comes from evidence, disagreement, humility, and review.

The important boundary Keep your advisor. Nothing here is financial advice.

04 / SHARED HISTORY

A chapter becomes more valuable the longer it remembers.

The Field Ledger preserves what the chapter considered, what it selected, what happened next, and what members learned. Over time, isolated meetings become a local history the group owns together.

MonthWhat remainsWhy it matters
MONTH 01The first eight casesA starting point for how the chapter thinks.
MONTH 06Patterns begin to showStronger questions, clearer reasoning, fewer repeated mistakes.
YEAR 02A history no new group hasDecisions, lessons, stories, and evidence built together.

05 / BEYOND THE TABLE

The chapter should have a life outside the meeting.

Modest shared adventures are part of the chapter from the start: a hike, a beach day, a camping trip, or something similarly accessible. They are not a reward for investment performance. They give the group more than one kind of memory.

If a financially meaningful result ever arrives, the chapter may choose to mark it with a larger experience. That is an earned possibility, not a promise, and never a reason to take reckless risks.

The point is the shared experience, not the expense. No member should be priced out.

THE HONEST START
