DogShit Investing is designed around small, independent chapters. We collect only the information reasonably needed to operate the website, manage access, support chapters, and preserve chapter records.
We do not collect or hold money for investment. We do not collect brokerage credentials, bank account details, or credit card information. If paid chapter services are introduced later, this policy will be updated before payment information is collected.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how DogShit Investing ("DogShit Investing," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects personal information through our public website, chapter platform, communications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
This policy does not govern information that chapter members exchange independently of the Service, including conversations at meetings, personal messages, or activity in brokerage, banking, cryptocurrency, or other third-party accounts.
The Service is intended for adults who have reached the age of majority where they live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Service. If we learn that we collected such information contrary to this requirement, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
2. Information We May Collect
Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect:
- Contact and profile information: name, email address, location, profile details, and information you provide when asking about or joining a chapter.
- Account and access information: account identifier, authentication and security information, chapter membership, role, invitations, acknowledgements, and account activity.
- Chapter administration information: chapter name, location, meeting schedule, membership status, attendance or participation status, support requests, conduct matters, and administrative history.
- Member content: investment cases, comments, votes or rankings, meeting records, historical chapter selections, and other material members choose to submit.
- Communications: emails, inquiries, feedback, and records of our correspondence with you.
- Technical information: internet protocol address, browser and device information, timestamps, security logs, and similar information produced when the Service is used.
Please do not include unnecessary personal, financial, confidential, or identifying information in an investment case or other chapter content.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
DogShit Investing does not collect or request:
- money intended for investment;
- bank account or credit card information at this time;
- brokerage, exchange, wallet, or banking passwords or credentials;
- authority to access an investment account or place a trade;
- tax identification numbers or complete account statements; or
- the amount, composition, or value of a member's wider portfolio.
A member reports purchased, not purchased, or unable to access after independently considering the chapter's fixed 20-unit local-currency stake. That self-reported status and the member's name are visible inside the member's own chapter as a participation record. We do not collect a variable amount, quantity, receipt, brokerage credential, account balance, bank information, transaction verification, or proof of ownership.
4. Submission Privacy and Chapter Records
The Service is intended to present investment cases to members without attributing them to their author. The system records who submitted a case, but that authorship is not shown to other members of your chapter at any stage, including in the record of past meetings. DogShit Investing does not use submission authorship to direct, rank, recommend, or influence a chapter's choice.
Your name, profile information, chapter membership, chapter role, attendance, and self-reported purchase participation may be visible to authorized members of your chapter where the chapter process requires it. Your investment case and private ballot are not attributed to you. Each record follows its own access controls.
Case authorship remains hidden from the chapter. Only a narrowly controlled conduct process may resolve authorship after a credible serious or repeated violation requires account-level action and two distinct authorized Conduct Administrators approve the access. The identity is never disclosed to the chapter.
DogShit Investing may retain the content of submitted cases, chapter votes or rankings, participation records, and the selection that members report after their decision. Access is limited according to the member's role and chapter. Network administrators are intended to see chapter health and operational status, not private chapter thinking, live cases, live selections, or individual voting behaviour.
No technical system can control what a person reveals outside it. A member may identify their own submission during a conversation, or other members may infer authorship from its content. Members should not try to defeat the non-attribution design or identify another member's submission without permission.
5. How We Use Information
We may use personal information to:
- respond to inquiries and assess interest in a chapter;
- create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and assign chapter roles;
- operate the chapter process and preserve its historical record;
- support chapter administration, safety, conduct, and compliance;
- communicate about meetings, account activity, policy changes, and the Service;
- maintain, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Service;
- create statistics that do not identify individual members; and
- meet legal requirements and protect the rights and safety of members, DogShit Investing, and others.
We will not use private chapter information to recommend an investment, influence a selection, publish a live chapter pick, or build a public investment-advice service.
6. Consent and Choices
We seek consent where required and identify the purposes for collecting personal information at or before collection. You may withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may prevent us from providing account or chapter features that require the information.
You may unsubscribe from optional promotional email using the link in the message or by contacting us. Service, security, account, and policy notices may still be sent while your account remains active.
7. When We May Share Information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose limited information:
- within your chapter, according to the chapter process and your role;
- to service providers that host, secure, maintain, or support the Service, under obligations appropriate to the information;
- with your direction or consent;
- as part of a proposed or completed business transaction, subject to appropriate protections; or
- where required or permitted by law, or reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, security incidents, threats, or violations of our terms.
Service providers may process information outside British Columbia or Canada. When that occurs, the information may be subject to the laws and lawful access processes of the place where it is processed.
8. Aggregated and De-identified Information
We may use information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it does not identify an individual, for example to understand chapter participation or improve the Service. We will not publish or share a chapter's live selection through cross-chapter reporting. Any future cross-chapter learning feature must be delayed, consent-based, learning-focused, and designed so that it cannot reveal a member or a live chapter choice.
9. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Service may use essential cookies or similar technologies for sign-in, security, preferences, and basic operation. If analytics or other non-essential technologies are introduced, we will provide the notice and choices required by applicable law.
10. Retention
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including account administration, chapter continuity, legal obligations, dispute resolution, safety, and enforcement of agreements. Retention periods depend on the nature and sensitivity of the information and why it is required.
When information is no longer required, we will securely delete, destroy, or de-identify it. Some chapter records may remain after a member leaves where needed to preserve the integrity of the chapter's shared history, but personal identifiers should be removed or restricted where reasonably possible.
11. Safeguards
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Access is intended to follow chapter membership and role. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be lost, accessed, used, or disclosed improperly.
12. Access and Correction
You may request access to personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete. Applicable law may permit or require us to limit access in some circumstances, including where disclosure would reveal another person's personal information. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
You may also ask to close your account or delete personal information that is no longer required. We will respond in accordance with applicable law and may retain limited information where reasonably necessary for legal obligations, security, dispute resolution, enforcement, or the integrity of a chapter's shared historical record.
13. Third-Party Services
The Service may link to brokerages, cryptocurrency platforms, market-data providers, or other third-party services. DogShit Investing does not control those services or their privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information or opening an account with them.
14. Future Chapter Fees
DogShit Investing does not currently charge a chapter fee and does not collect credit card or banking information. If a paid chapter service is introduced, we will identify the payment provider, information involved, purposes, disclosures, and applicable choices before payment information is collected. We expect a payment provider, rather than DogShit Investing, to process complete payment credentials.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. The current version will be posted with a new "Last updated" date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice or seek consent where required.
